Lent

The Season of Lent is an invitation to forty days of renewal (“Lent” means “spring”). We follow Jesus through deeper disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

You are invited to take two steps in following Jesus more closely with Mt Carmel, being part of a small groups and through serving together. Click here to sign up or request more information.

Short Term Small Groups

  • Berkeley Lake Group. We will be studying Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline on Tuesday nights in the home of Lois Salter, 650 Lakeshore Drive, Berkeley Lake, Georgia 30096. We'll begin on February 16 and continue weekly through March 29. We will begin each of those evenings at 7:00 pm and conclude by 8:00. Spaces for this small group are limited so those interested should please call me at 770-368-3243 for further information. Participants will need a copy of the book which can be obtained through Amazon.com. A review of the book can be found there including this quote from Michael Joseph Gross: "Such wise and encouraging suggestions have helped many readers to discard the idea that discipline is an onerous duty and to move toward a liberating and simpler idea of discipline--whose defining character, as Foster never forgets, is joy."
  • Peachtree Corners Group: Art and Mark. Meets Fridays 7-8:30 pm at the home of Katrina Stone. Led by Katrina Stone and George Hunter, this group will use daily practices from The Artists Way and lessons from the Gospel of Mark. No need to purchase the book. Beings February 12. Gather 6:30 for Lent Friendly SNACKS!!!!, start time 7:00, finish time 8:30. Our art group will make ourselves available to help with Stations of the Cross.
  • Big: Wednesday Night Kids. All kids are invited to hear the Big-Haired lady tell Big Stories about God's Big Love. Following the story, we'll be working on a BIG project to show God's big love to some of the littlest people around, babies in ICU units. Wednesday Nights 6:45-7:30.
  • Wednesday hats for hope. Led by Shelia Trentini, this group will meet in the youth Sunday School room and use looms to knit hats for homeless and working poor persons. No knitting or crochet experience required. Wednesday Nights 6:45-7:30.
  • Wednesday Night Table Conversations. Dinner at 6-6:45, stay for a short video clip about living our faith, then small group conversations around the table. Finish by 7:30. Nursery and children's activities are provided.
  • Sunday Lunch Bunch. Gather for lunch at 12:15 at a nearby restaurant (Feb 14 Kikos, Feb 21 Ginos New York Pizza, Feb 28 Cheekies, March 6 Thai Star, March 13 Newks (in the Forum), March 20 Paizanos (downtown Norcross). There are weekly flyers at worship at the usher's table with directions. Get to know friends from both services. Spend unstructured time sharing life together. Led by Wynne Buran.
  • Tuesday MidDay Group, meets Tuesdays 11:30-12:30 at the Hope House. Led by Pastor Cyndi., this group will discuss the scripture reading for the coming Sunday.
  • Saturday Walking Group, meets Saturdays 8-9:15 at the church parking lot. As we walk, we will set goals for the coming week.
  • Serve

  • Serve at Norcross Coop. Meet at Norcross Coop, 2275 Mitchell Road, Norcross, GA 30071, as Mt Carmel folks together sort and shelve donations to the Coop. Save up and bring your donations. Or better yet, invite your neighbors to donate and serve with us:

  • Pack Health Kits for Relief Efforts. Sponsored by Men’s Ministry, Wednesday March 2 at 6:45.
  • Serve at the Atlanta homeless February 20 with Stubby's Heroes Day of Compassion. Meet at the church at 10:15 and caravan to 2727 Paces Ferry, Atlanta, 30339 to sort and pack clothes, toiletries, food and blankets, and then take these to 100 Edgewood Ave (across from GSU) to distribute to homeless persons.   • Chattahoochee River Cleanup: When: Saturday, February 20, 2016, 9:00am – 12:00pm. Meet at the Department of Natural Resources Hwy 166 boat ramp in South Fulton County, adjacent to 7205 Campbellton Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy boots. Bring a reusable water bottle. Gloves, trash bags, tools and light snacks will be provided. Please RSVP to jsterling@chattahoochee.org
